A: i consider only things that are actually in my games to be canon, and all other related media is only canon-adjacent (like another piece of candy). this includes asks.

the reason for this is... i like to share headcanons or just make jokes, but i don't want people to feel like they need to keep up with this page to know all the things. probably obvious, but i thought i would clarify anyway.

yeah!! butterscotch and toffee are very intertwined, they are platonic life partners in the same way syrup and pastille are (since they're meant to mirror each other!)

there's really important backstory in syrup 2 that will paint an even clearer picture of their relationship, and i wish i could go off about it here, but ALAS, SPOILERS!!!!!! toffee and butterscotch are very good though, thank you for appreciating them...

witch/familiar relationships are really common and take lots of forms (jam tries to insist on being marzipan's familiar, genoise tries to adopt moxie, etc). witches tend to have more power/resources so it's normal for them to adopt+support a pet (aka familiar), and sometimes this dynamic can make things VERY UNEQUAL AND A BAD TIME but most often both parties genuinely care about each other and have agency in their situation and whatnot. so it's generally fine.

deciding whether to call it a friendship or a familiar(ship...?) is ultimately up to the people involved. they're operating on vibes. some witches aren't interested in having a familiar, some think it's kinda fucked up. some types of animal folk (like cats) are very intertwined with witch society and end up as familiars a lot, while others (like wolves) almost never are.

that's basically the gist of it... ah, but when it's a human instead of a witch, the animal person is called a pet instead of a familiar. but it's basically the same. that's why trick is a pet instead of a familiar, since their master is human!

see, this is the best part about peristille, these boys were designed a year or two apart from each other and intended for entirely different purposes. they were never supposed to meet. the fact that they met and fell in love was fate. i was literally just like "yeah i think these two would've hooked up at one point" and then it later turned into starry flowers.

syrup and astra i think were also a happy coincidence. astra was made so that peri had a friend to talk to during starry flowers, and i thought it would be fun if she was his complete opposite. i think stoic women who are opinionated, really into their work, and a bit difficult to talk to, are great! so it's probably just my preferences that led them to be so similar. i'm glad they get along though, you'll get to see them interact in syrup 2.

we have to come up with a better name than namiverse...

i write everyone with american accents because i'm american. but this changes based on what language you're playing in, of course. sorry for the boring answer, since the setting is complete fantasy i don't have any reason to put in specific real-world accents, so i try to communicate their vibe with word choice instead!

real answer: yes they have at least 3 sets of the same clothes. butterscotch buys them other things to wear, but they just pile them on the floor to lay on.

i thought doing limited palettes would make each route stand out from each other. coloring them "normally" would've been too time-consuming for the amount of illustrations i had to do... and mixing the palettes for the climax made sense once the rules were established.

the concept art for overlord and underling already had their colors, so for maiden and hero i picked ones that complimented the others. maiden was gonna be pink at first... can u imagine...

yes, i've tried a few! wolf rpg editor was really fun to use when i tried it, but i dropped it because it didn't have korean text support (i value being able to translate my games to many languages...)

i have game maker studio 2, but i was never able to make something in it. very neat workspace and seems powerful, but it was ultimately too confusing and afaik i can't use python like i'm used to, so i'm not very motivated to figure it out.

i have touched unity briefly and completely hated it. i have no desire to make 3d games... i know naninovel exists, but there's no reason not to just use ren'py if i want to make a vn. the main benefit to unity would be the ability to port+publish to console myself, but i'm not interested in doing that atm.

uh what else... i downloaded godot but it did not run on my pc for some reason. perhaps i will try it again one day.

sure, i choose some elements because they're more rare, or just because i think it'd be fun to write about them. it's usually like, "i have feelings about [thing] so i'll make a story about it!" or "i don't have a character like this yet, i'll put one in!"

astra's garden was a case where i just really wanted to write about chronic illness, so i did. many stories use characters suffering from chronic illness as kind of a prop? like some tragic flawless figure only there to be pitied, that doesn't really get to be a full person. it sucks. i really want to make a game about vinegar as soon as i can, because i have a billion thoughts that would be very cathartic to write about.

i think rpgmaker is great because it's just scripting rather than coding. you can make something nice using the constraints of the engine, and you get experience in formatting your ideas in a way a computer can understand. just follow tutorials and don't be afraid to google stuff you don't understand! likely someone has already tried to do the same thing you wanted to do, so like... the answers are out there. go make a silly little game.

there are lots of small things i've absorbed from anime/manga/cartoons over the years but nothing notable enough to name. except masaaki yuasa maybe, just for how expressive his style is. tatami galaxy was the first anime where i was like "WHAT DO YOU MEAN YOU CAN JUST DRAW BACKGROUNDS LIKE THAT??" and it stuck with me ever since.

when i was 11 or 12 i somehow got my hands on rpgmaker and tried to make a game with it using assets from pokemon sapphire (my favorite game at the time), but i couldn't figure out how to make tile collision work. if i had been more stubborn, maybe i would have a collection of poorly made rpgmaker games to look back on now.

great question because i've actually been playing a ton of games recently! (this is not usually the case)

i picked up a bunch of stuff i had wishlisted on steam since the summer sale is going on right now--this includes:

• unpacking
• q.u.q.
• super lesbian animal RPG
• oneshot
• vampire survivors

i finished unpacking and q.u.q., and i highly recommend the latter, it's a great VN!!! i found the artist/composer through vocaloid... as a rule, if i find out some artist has made a VN, i always go and play it. i'm still thinking about it, the aesthetic really rocks...

i'm currently in the middle of slarpg and oneshot, and it feels kinda odd to play them both at the same time, but slarpg is hooking me more... the art is fantastic for both. and vampire survivors is great because i wanted something mindless yet engaging i could do to relax so that i don't just work instead. otherwise i would just keep playing zachtronics solitaire collection endlessly. felt like i should mix it up lol...

as for finding new games, BROWSE ITCH.IO!!!!!!!! i look through tags sometimes (like lgbt or yuri) or i download a ton of games from specific jams (usually yuri jam or nanoreno) and play them all at once. there are a ton of hidden gems on there, but it really depends on what you're personally interested in... i (obviously) like yuri games and visual novels, so both of those jams are a huge boon to me.

good luck browsing, download everything that seems even slightly interesting and you will end up having a great time imo!

to answer your question: i love all the treat characters so there will inevitably be more content of them. i'm not sure if it'd be spinoff games later or just more comics... but i'm still a ways off from finishing chapter 8 so i haven't gotten a chance to think about it yet haha.

the characters i've drawn for songs (so far) are based on eleanor, since i'm using her voice bank. so it's not something i'd turn into a game, but i'm happy when people like them enough to want an expanded story. it's very flattering... for me it's like, i'm personally satisfied just expressing those feelings through the song, but if there was ever one where that didn't feel like enough, i might do more with it... does that make sense?

in short, it's more likely i'd make a song to suit a game (like for BAD END THEATER) rather than the other way around. but if i ever make enough songs to release a full album, you bet there will be more art of those characters :)

i have always been nami online (and to my friends). it used to be nami-tsuki on deviantart. people had trouble pronouncing it though, so when i started an art blog on tumblr i decided to rebrand to nomnomnami. i like the alliteration, and it helps you say "nami" instead of "nammy" ...although some people still say "nammy" for some reason.

as for why "nami tsuki" it's because i was a little baby weeb. that's my story!
